About Us

The Museum of Pittsburgh Art began as a consortium of Pittsburgh collectors and art enthusiasts, gathered together by artist Bob Ziller in May 2026.  Most of the initial artworks posted online (the first hundred or so) are from his personal collection (now the MOPA collection) of Pittsburgh area artwork that he has gathered over the past 35 years.  Members of his Advisory Board, and others who have simply loaned art for the Introductory Show, include Pat McArdle, Kathleen Zimbicki, Russell Howard, Christine Bethea, Dr. William Smith, Caroline Boyce, Eric Holmes, Deborah Corsini, Tom Tripoli, Sheila Ali, Andy Spanoudakis, Jody Guy, Laura Jean McLaughlin, Megan Williams, Debra Platt, and Dana Dolney.   MOPA has been invited to apply for fiscal sponsorship by Johannah Hutchison, the Executive Director of the International Sculpture Center, which has recently relocated to Pittsburgh.  Founded in 1960, the ISC, also the publisher of Sculpture magazine, has never before offered a fiscal sponsorship to any entity; MOPA is honored to be the first to be considered.  More on that in the hopefully near future, as the paperwork gets settled.   MOPA has also been offered a permanent space as part of historic preservationist/developer Tom Tripoli's proposal for repurposing the Western Penitentiary, a national landmark on the banks of the Ohio River.  Until that time, exhibitions will be conducted at Lascaux Studios, 722 Wood St., Wilkinsburg, PA 15221.
